Do you have a tilt-up building with walls that are beginning to show wear? Are the walls starting to peel, blister or flake? This unfortunately is very typical with the standard coating on some tilt-up walls. Good news, we can help. The team here at The Ohio Painting Company are accustomed to resurfacing tilt-up walls, giving them a brand-new look and feel, sealing them against the elements.
Thinking of trying to repaint them yourself? You absolutely can, but it’s not easy. Tilt-up walls require special attention and preparation. If there is blistering it’s often a sign of mold, which will need to be removed correctly before you can begin painting. We’ve dealt with this before and know exactly what to do. we’re Daytons recommended painters for a reason. We always make sure to do the job right the first time, so you can enjoy long lasting results.
To prevent the concrete from adhering to the molds, we apply release agents, or bond breakers, to the mold before the concrete is poured. These release agents can be solvent-based, water-based, oil-based, silicone-based, silicone-free, silicone water-based and many other proprietary combinations. But they all perform the same function—they create lower surface energy between the concrete form and the concrete to mitigate adhesion.
Unfortunately, release agent residue also can inhibit adhesion of coatings and paint to the concrete surface. Now we need to remove the release agent residue before painting or coating tilt-up concrete surfaces. Power washing at the specified pressure using the specified cleaning solvent will do the trick.
